Less than a week from now, Oxford United will know whether they will be a Football League side or will remain a Conference outfit. Meanwhile, both divisions are starting to take shape.
Should United fail to win promotion, they now know that Grimsby Town, who lost 3-0 at Burton Albion on Saturday, have joined Darlington in relegation from the League. Coming up from the Conference's regional divisions are Bath City, who beat Woking 1-0 at Twerton Park in yesterday's Conference South play-off final to join Newport County in promotion from that division. In the Conference North play-off final, Fleetwood Town's 2-1 win over Alfreton earned them promotion, along with Southport, to ensure that there will be at least one new ground for Oxford fans to visit.
Should the Us win promotion to League Two, they will join Stockport County, Southend United, Wycombe Wanderers, and Gillingham who were all relegated from League One. Gillingham's 3-0 defeat at Wycombe, combined with wins for Tranmere Rovers and Exeter City and a draw for Hartlepool United, meant that they went down on the season's final day. Going up from League Two are Notts County, AFC Bournemouth, and Rochdale, while the play-offs include three recent Conference sides; Morecambe will play Dagenham & Redbridge, with Aldershot facing Rotherham United. New grounds for Oxford in League Two will be at Shrewsbury Town, Chesterfield, and of course Accrington Stanley, whoever they are.
