Although Oxford United were without a match this boring Saturday, there was still a fairly full Conference programme. Despite not playing, United remain 12th in the table, although the sliver of possibility that they might make the play offs grew even more remote following Exeter City's 2-1 win over Farsley Celtic. The win lifts the Grecians into fifth place, 15 points above United, with only 14 games left of the season.
Neither Aldershot nor Torquay United had a league game today, but Cambridge United took the opportunity to move up to third place by beating Forest Green Rovers, United's opponents next Saturday, 2-0, with Wayne Hatswell somehow getting on the scoresheet with Cambridge's first goal after just five minutes. Stevenage Borough, in fourth place, were held to a 0-0 draw by Grays Athletic. Salisbury City moved up to seventh after coming back from behind to beat Kidderminster Harriers 2-1, while Histon's 1-0 win at Weymouth took them up to ninth, leaving the Terras just two points above the drop zone. Halifax and second-bottom Stafford Rangers drew 0-0, while Northwich Victoria gave themselves a glimmer of hope by winning 3-2 at Woking, with Lee Steele scoring the Vics' second. They're nine points from safety.
In the FA Trophy, York City, who would have been Oxford's opponents today, justified their non-appearance by winning 1-0 at Rushden & Diamonds. United still don't know if they'll have a game on 8 March, as their erstwhile opponents, Burton Albion, were held to a 0-0 draw by Ebbsfleet United. Torquay United racked up the biggest win, beating Crawley 4-1, with Jamie Cook scoring Crawley's late consolation from the penalty spot. In the other tie, Aldershot won 2-1 at Tamworth.
