Of his own accord

Of his own accord

Contrary to suggestions that David Kemp has been coerced into honouring his contract by Firoz Kassam, Kemp has publicly stated that he had no intention of following Joe Kinnear to Luton Town. He has also revealed that he, and not Kassam or Bill Smith, has sole responsibility for negotiating transfers and contracts, which is not necessarily a good thing. Meanwhile Luton fans' excitement has been dampened somewhat by the news that Kinnear has been talking to officials of Coventry City and is being strongly tipped to take a similar role up there.

Fulham empty reserves' tank

United reserves played their Fulham equivalents in London this afternoon and got hammered 5-1 by a strong Cottagers side, which featured Karl-Heinz Riedle and Sahnoun amongst others. Three of Fulham's goals came in the final five minutes. Paul Tait played the full 90 minutes for the U's and Paul Powell also featured on the left wing, scoring United's goal before being substituted.

Local lad and former United striker Mick Tait has been appointed assistant manager at Darlington.
