Nuneaton nonces

United's second string went down 2-1 at Nuneaton in their third successive friendly tonight. It would have been worse but for a last minute consolation goal from triallist Leo Roget (not Samuel Okokiolu as previously stated). Oxford started with Leo Roget and Christian Hanson in the centre of defence and Bradley Allen and Brian Quailey up front. ROS Chris Hackett, Paul Powell and Scott Guyett lined up in midfield alongside Adam Locke.

Darren Patterson, who played for Oxford at Moor Green, apparently played for Cambridge United in their friendly against Histon last Saturday. By all accounts he impressed the Cambridge crew.

David Oldfield, who played the full 90 minutes against Chelsea yesterday, has allegedly been offered a one year contract as player-coach, as suggested by Rage Online on July 15th. Meanwhile it has been reported in the Sun and the Star “newspapers” that Oxford have been speaking to former Southampton defender Ken Monkou. As implied by the sources of this story this is highly unlikely as Monkou, at 37, is three years older than Oldfield and probably even slower.
