Not so astute

From the Rage Online newsdesk Monday, September 29th, 2008

There are strong rumours that Histon are on the brink of entering into administration after the Stutes posted losses of over a quarter of a million pounds for the year ending May 2008. Despite a successful debut season in the Conference last year, attendances at the Glassworld Stadium this season have dropped by over a quarter, and apparently the global financial crisis has also seen Histon lose some major sponsors. Allegedly, Histon's players have not been paid for September and their goalkeeping coach, and former United stopper, Lance Key was made redundant last week. Should Histon enter into administration they will be hit with a deduction of 10 points, but that would probably be the least of their worries. Oxford are due to visit Histon on 22 November.[@opponent]histon[/@opponent][@player]key, lance[/@player]

Two Conference games took place yesterday. Stevenage Borough drew 3-3 with York City to leave Borough in 11th place and the Minstermen two places lower. Meanwhile, Cambridge United needed a last-minute penalty to overcome Grays Athletic 1-0. This leaves Grays third from bottom, two points behind Oxford, and lifts Cambridge up to fifth.

Oxford United can do their scouting from the comfort of their armchairs this evening. Next Saturday's opponents, Rushden & Diamonds, take on Altrincham tonight, live on Setanta TV. A point will be enough to lift Alty above United, while a win for 10th-placed Rushden would lift them to the fringes of the play-off places.
