Oxford United midfielder Josh Payne has joined Aldershot Town on an initial one-month loan deal. The 21 year-old midfielder has made three starts and six substitute appearances for the Us this season, but has not played since the 3-0 FA Cup defeat to Sheffield United in November. Payne joins the Shots – who sit 16th in Division Four – to get some games under his belt after falling down the pecking order at the Kassam Stadium, largely due to the arrival of midfield maestro Peter Leven.
The former West Ham United trainee joined United from Doncaster Rovers on loan in August 2010 before making his move permanent in January. Born in Basingstoke, Payne has made over 40 appearances for the Yellows since his arrival with one goal to his name, a stunning 25-yard free kick in the 3-1 home win against Northampton Town in 2010. He became the Hammers Youth Team captain before completing loan spells at Cheltenham Town, Colchester United and Wycombe Wanderers. Payne becomes eligible to play for Dean Holdsworth
