No charity from Fever

From the Rage Online newsdesk Sunday, May 9th, 2004

Raging Fever won their final game of the season yesterday, beating Oxfam 5-4 in a closely fought game. After weathering some early Oxfam pressure, Fever went ahead thanks to Kasim, who allegedly stayed onside and advanced to beat former Fever goalie Mark Gunther. However RF were unable to hold on to their advantage for long, and Oxfam got the equaliser they deserved. Shortly afterwards the charity side went ahead, but the prolific John Matthews leveled the scores before half-time.

Matthews was on target again to give the Fever the lead once more, but a defensive lapse allowed Oxfam to level the scores. Raging Fever took the lead yet again when Gunther was unable to hold onto an Andy Kelly header, which crept over the line, but another equaliser looked to have salvaged a deserved draw for Oxfam. That was until Steve Fuller beat Gunther at his near post with the very last kick of the game to allow the United supporters side to end the season on a high.

This game was notable for several reasons. Firstly, it was the first time that Oxfam had lost in over two years. Secondly, it meant that Raging Fever secured more victories than defeats over the course of a season for longer than most people can remember. Finally, for the first time in living memory, both Raging Fever and Oxford United won on the same day!
