Morris joins United attack

Oxford United have completed the loan signing of Norwich City striker Carlton Morris.

The 18-year-old forward arrives at the Kassam Stadium on an initial six-month loan from the Division Two side.

Morris helped the Canaries win the FA Youth Cup during the 2012-13 season, with the club rewarding his efforts with a new two-and-a-half-year deal at Carrow Road.

The England Under-18 international joins Michael Appleton’s Yellows in search of more first-team opportunities after Norwich’s relegation from the Premier League last term.

He said: “It is a great chance for me. I have played all my football at Norwich so far but I am looking forward to testing myself.

“Oxford are a good club and I know they are very ambitious so I want to come here, train hard and play regular, competitive football in a successful side.”

Boss Appleton was delighted with his latest addition: “Carlton had a number of clubs looking at him and I think it speaks volumes for Oxford United that he has chosen to come here when other clubs were chasing his services.

“He is big and strong, technically very good, and he is a decent finisher so we are excited to have him here.

“We have always said that we will wait until the right payer is available, someone we believe will strengthen what we already have, and Carlton fits the bill perfectly.

“We will though continue our efforts to bring in further attacking options before the transfer window closes.”

Morris becomes United’s sixth summer signing and will go straight into the squad for Oxford’s Division Four opener at home to Burton Albion on Saturday.
