It appears that the story we ran yesterday about Histon's financial problems was, in fact, a load of bollocks. Our source was The Blue Square Premier web site, which is the official site of Blue Square, who sponsor the Conference, and ought therefore be a reliable enough site to steal, er source, our information from. However, it appears that they, and therefore we, were duped by someone posting a load of guff on a Cambridge United web site, and they didn't think to check their story with Histon officials. Silly them. That just leaves Grays Athletic, Altrincham, Lewes, Weymouth, oh, and Oxford United in imminent financial danger in the Conference. (There may be others, but we don't know about them yet.)
Talking of Altrincham, and we were, it appears that they are currently officially better than us. In their televised game last night they drew 1-1 with Rushden & Diamonds, who visit the United Stadium on Saturday. Altrincham took the lead in the first half, but Leon Knight equalised midway through the second half. This moves Alty up to 19th, and drops United down to 20th, one point above Woking who are fourth from bottom.
In random other news, Wrexham will not be signing Robbie Savage as their new player-coach, to replace Brian Little. Little was sacked, sorry, left by mutual consent, after Wrexham could only draw with minnows Torquay United on Saturday. Savage allegedly earns
