Raging Fever got back to winning ways in emphatic style by despatching a poor Cambridge team on Coldhams Common on Saturday morning. Starting brightly, Fever took an early lead following some neat passing on the left hand side of the pitch; Andy Hill controlled a lofted ball over the defence from Jon Brown and played it into the path of Domi Crowder, who finished neatly to continue his recent scoring run.
Another move down the left flank led to the second goal, as John Matthews received a Brown through ball with his back to goal, and turned his defender before beating the keeper. Oxford were in complete control of the opening period, and increased the lead yet further when Gez Foster?s shot from distance was parried by the keeper, with Hill on hand to make no mistake with the rebound, his header from three yards, bouncing about a dozen times before crossing the goal line.
Fever had a scare before kick-off. With no fit goalkeepers appearing in the travelling party, Dan Pear bravely volunteered, and put in a storming display between the sticks until his yearning for an outfield berth got the better of him. He was dispossessed trying to play the ball out of his area, gifting the home team a lifeline just before the teams changed ends.
Despite being pegged back at the start of the second half, the Yellows were careful not to let their opponents back into the game, and stretched their lead as Andy Hill broke clean through on goal and somehow managed to score his second despite trying his best to fluff the chance. Pat Wehmeier then scored with his customary long-range effort, and John Matthews made the game safe by heading past a surprisingly static goalkeeper for his second of the morning.
Moosenet gave the scoreline a less embarrassing look by scoring twice. First, a corner was not cleared by the Fever defence and the loose ball was lashed in; then a free kick from wide outside the penalty area drifted into the top corner via a despairing hand from Mark Howland, who had taken his turn in goal. This released Dan Pear to link up with brother Nicky, and Domi Crowder at the other end of the pitch, and they repeatedly caused the home defence problems with some great passing and movement. The final goal was not scored until the last kick of the game, however, when Matthews completed his hat trick by volleying in a Foster corner.
