Minton leaves a hole

According to today's Oxford Mail United missed out on bringing midfielder Jeff Minton to Oxford, despite director Bill Smith's understanding that the deal was done. According to Smith even Minton's agent was surprised that the former Rotherham player failed to sign a contract. Most recently Minton was signed by Leyton Orient on a contract which took him from transfer deadline until the end of last season.

The paper also reported a statement by Firoz Kassam that no fee had been agreed with Barnet for Sam Stockley. Mind you, the paper claimed that the reported fee was £100,000, so you know that you can't believe everything you read.

Talking of which, Team Talk reports that two unnamed Oxford United players are currently on trial with swindon at the County Ground. The report does not specify if they are players currently on United's books or if they are former U's released last season. Hopefully the latter (Murphy and Bus would do) although, as ever with Team Talk, this report should be taken with a pinch of salt, especially as Thisisswindon says that the duo, one a striker, are actually Oxford City players looking to downgrade their careers.
