First-team coach Andy Melville has resigned from his position at Oxford United.
The Division Four club accepted the 45-year-old’s resignation today after five years at the Kassam Stadium.
Melville, who has 65 international caps for his native Wales, made over 150 appearances for the Us back in his playing days after arriving from Swansea City before moving onto the likes of West Ham United, Fulham and Sunderland.
Having joined Oxford’s coaching staff a year before the Yellows’ promotion back into the Football League back in May 2010, Melville says he wishes the club all the best in the future.
He said: “I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at the club. It is my first full-time coaching role and I have learned so much over the last five years. I have worked with some tremendous people and it has been a privilege to work at the club.
“I now feel that the time is right to move on. I don’t have a specific job out there to go to but I would like the opportunity to take stock and see what is available.
“I am sad to be leaving but I know the club is in good hands and hopefully there are exciting times ahead for both myself and Oxford United.”
Us chairman Ian Lenagan was keen to pay his gratitude: “Andy has worked extremely hard and always been very honest and approachable.
“We thank him for his efforts. It is an amicable departure and he is welcome at the club any time.
“At the same time it opens up possibilities within the coaching set-up and we will sit down with Gary Waddock to discuss how we structure things for next season.”
