Manny’s the man

Oxford’s second signing in as many days is pacey strikerĀ Emmanuel Omoyinmi, who joins on a free transfer from Westam United. United fans will remember 22 year old Omoyinmi as the scorer of a spectacular goal at the Manor last season whilst on loan to Gillingham, when he outpaced Les Robinson (okay, so maybe it wasn’t that spectacular) before blasting home from a narrow angle. Everyone else will remember him as the man who got West Ham evicted from the League Cup by failing to mention that he had already played in that competition for the Gills when the Hammers brought him on as a substitute. He is therefore less than popular amongst those chirpy cockney types, which is a shame as he’s a West Ham fan. If Omoyinmi lines up alongside Steve Anthrobus it will lend credence to the rumour that United are signing players with long names so that the club shop can take more from their shirt-printing business.

Morrells to appeal

Unsurprisingly Morrells of Oxford announced today that they are appealing against the High Court decision to revoke their injunction preventing United from recommencing work on the new stadium. In a statement Morrells claimed that the fact that the judge gave them leave to appeal was a significant message and after taking legal advice they decided to proceed. Today was the deadline for them to make their appeal, but no timescale for when the appeal will be heard has been announced. FOUL is maintaining its boycott of Morrells until the brewery is no longer an issue.

Clink in Don’s armour

Former United physio John Clinkard, who quit earlier this month to set up his own business, has decided to join First Division team Wimbledon, although he won’t be with them on Saturdays. It is thought that Clinks, a United supporter from Kidlington, was unhappy with his paltry salary at the Manor. Meanwhile former United reserve left back Nigel Winterburn has moved from Arsenal to West Ham for an undisclosed fee to fight out a first team place with fellow youngster Stuart Pearce.
