The Bus has gone down in history as possibly the least successful striker ever to have played for United, scoring just four goals in 69 appearances. It all started so well for him, too. Stephen Anthony Anthrobus, born in Lewisham, scored the only goal in a pre-season friendly against Derby, and then headed the winner in the first game of the 1999/2000 season at Stoke. After he was harshly sent off at Bristol Rovers his decline started, and he became a figure of fun, and animosity, for the Oxford supporters, who breathed a huge sigh of relief when he was released in May 2001.
Bus started his `career` at Millwall in 1986, joining Wimbledon for £150,000 in Feb 1990. After loan spells at Peterborough and Chester, he joined Shrewsbury for £25,000 in August 1995. He had a good scoring record there, and was well liked by Shrews fans before he signed for Crewe for £75,000 in March 1997, from whence he joined Oxford. After he left United, Bus`s career hit the doldrums for over a year, before he eventually joined Welsh outfit Total Network Solutions in August 2002. After one season he signed for Hednesford Town, where he became the assistant manager in 2004.
