Christopher Alan Willmott, born Bedford, was signed from Northampton by Brian Talbot at the start of the 2005/06 season. A strong central defender, he was the most consistent of a shakey back line during the relegation season, and a regular starter in the Conference until sidelined with an injury in December 2006. However, despite not playing again that season, his importance to the squad was emphasised by the club offering him a new contract in the summer of 2007, which he accepted. He was part of United's solid defensive performance during their good run in the second half of the 2008/09 season. He was released at the end of the season as part of Chris Wilder's cull.
