Lee Richard Samuel Mansell, born in Gloucester, was signed by Brian Talbot at the start of the 2005/06 season, following his release by Luton Town. Signed as a right back to cover for the departing Dave Mackay, Mansell gave his best performances as a midfielder. He impressed the supporters enough to be voted Supporters Player of the Season during the relegation year, although many fans felt that his style owed more to the Headless Chicken school of football. There was general astonishment when Ian Atkins, now manager of Torquay United, actually paid a small fee to take Mansell of our hands in the summer of 2006.
