Scott Andrew McNiven, born Leeds, signed for United in the Summer of 2002, having been released by Oldham Athletic. A right back who likes to get forward, he impressed during the pre-season friendlies, despite a worrying tendency to ball-watch occasionally. He played as a right wingback for United, which is not his strength as he is much more back than wing, as shown by the fact that his first goal for the club didn`t occur until eight months into his first season (still an improvement on Garry Smart though). He was eventually too slow even for United, and moved on to Mansfield. Scotland Youth international; 1 Scotland Under-21 cap.
