David Thomas Patrick Savage, born in Dublin, joined United in the Summer of 2001, signed by Mark Wright just before the start of the season following a successful trial. He joined from Northampton, where he'd gained a reputation as being someone who was dependable but tended to be a 'Big Match' player. He did little during his first season at United to disabuse fans of this reputation, but he must have something about him as both Wright and Ian Atkins pick him automatically when he's fit. He will need to do something reasonably spectacular to convince the fans that Atkins' faith in him is not misplaced. Dave Savage was the first United player to sport a proper beard (as opposed to those silly goatee efforts) since Brian Drysdale. Five Ireland Under-21 caps. Five Ireland caps.
