Lundstram Signs

Oxford United have made an addition to their squad with the signing of Midfielder John Lundstram on a 2 year deal.

The 21-year-old was released by Everton at the end of last season, after 13 years progressing through their youth system, where in 2011 he signed his first professional contract. Lundstram’s first taste of senior football came on loan at Doncaster Rovers in 2013, as he became a key part of the team that lifted the League One trophy at the end of the season.  Loans followed at Yeovil, Leyton Orient, Blackpool and most recently Scunthorpe United. This has seen the midfielder gain experience at Championship and League One level, something that will put him in good stead in his arrival at United. Described as “strong in the tackle” with “a fine range of passing to instigate attacks’, Lundstram has also made 31 appearances combined in the England Under 17’s, 18’s, 19’s and 20’s.

Head Coach Michael Appleton said: “He gets on the ball, links things through the middle of the park and he’s combative so he won’t shy away from the physical side of the game either. It gives us a lot of competition in the middle of the park and we are really happy to have him here.”

Lundstram was in the away end for Saturday’s 2-2 draw at Luton Town and was given a warm reception by the Oxford faithful as he took his seat. Still short on match fitness, United are hoping the Midfielder can feature in a Development Squad friendly this week.

With his signing, this should allow fellow Midfielder Michael Collins to find a move to another club after being left out of the Match-day squad for the first 3 games.
