Livi it up

Livingston 0 Oxford United 0

Oxford concluded their brief Scottish tour with a goalless draw at Scottish Division Two favourites Livingston. Although United failed to find the target they will be pleased at keeping a second successive clean sheet, while at the same time giving many more players some decent game time.

Oxford almost went a goal down within two minutes, striker Jack Midson clearing off the line after Ryan Clarke had a bit of a flap at a harmless-looking cross. However, the Us regrouped and for most of the first half looked the better side, creating several decent scoring chances. These mainly fell to Matt Green, who ought to have done better with one opportunity after being teed up by James Constable, only to shoot into the side netting. Constable also might have done better after a sublime through-ball from Simon Heslop, but he couldn't keep his shot down.

Livingston came more into the game in the second half, and occasionally there was confusion in the United defence. They held firm, however, and Midson could have won the game with ten minutes remaining when his header from a Damian Batt cross went narrowly over. Livi were certainly better opposition than Dumbarton, but Oxford can be pleased with both the performance and the competitiveness of the game.

There are slight injury concerns to Mitchell Cole, Mark Creighton, Ben Purkiss, and Richie Baker ahead of the home game against Leicester City this Saturday, but nothing appears too serious and all players are likely to play a part. The Scottish tour has undoubtedly been a success in terms of team bonding and obtaining a good workout, and things are beginning to look cautiously optimistic for the start of the season, just two and a half weeks away.
