Leisurely stroll

In front of a disappointingly low crowd of just 2,081 Oxford and Leicester strolled to a goalless draw in the hot Summer sunshine. United came close to scoring on four occasions; first when a diving Dave Savage headed just wide from a cross from Manny Omoyinmi following an exquisite turn from the United forward. Then, just before half-time a 20 yarder from Savage forced a flying save from Tim Flowers, who had to perform two copycat saves in the second half, both also from an on-fire Savage.

Leicester also had their moments, somehow contriving to miss after some comical defending, not once but twice. Apart from that though this game never really livened up and with Matty Elliott imperious in the heart of the City defence the United strikers found it difficult to create chances.

The Us started with the same line-up that started against Chelsea, and it wasn't until midway through the second half that they made their first substitution, Sam Stockely replacing Dean Whitehead who played well, but not as strong as against Chelsea. As the game went on further changes saw Lee Steele (yes, he does really exist) come on for Manny; Leo Roget replaced Matt Bound; Adam Locke came on for Dave Waterman; Ian McCaldon saw the last five minutes in place of Andy Woodman and Jefferson Louis had a brief run out instead of David Oldfield.

Les's new role

Les Robinson, released by Mansfield during the Summer, has apparently joined Brian Horton's old club Hednesford (pronounced Hensford) Town.

Sources inform us that the much-vaunted leisure complex could be started sooner rather than later. Apparently new designs are being submitted, but the financing appears to be in place for restaurants and the multiplex cinema, as well as the rest of the proposed facilities. The completion of this project could well tie in with Firoz Kassam's eighteen month deadline that he has allegedly given himself to turn the club around. Meanwhile the Holiday Inn Express, complete with signage, opens for business this weekend.
