Stockport won for the first time in Oxford thanks to a first-half goal, against the run of play, from George Donnelly. United had earlier squandered a good opportunity to take the lead as Matt Green wasted yet another one-on-one, and in the second half the Us battered the visitors, but were undone by a combination of decent defending, poor finishing, inept refereeing, and rank bad luck. Like the defeat to Bury earlier in the season, Oxford can feel aggrieved to have come away with nothing, but like that game the Us need to learn to take their chances when they are presented.

Chris Wilder retained the same starting line-up that had won 2-0 at Hereford United last weekend, as Jake Wright remains sidelined with his back injury, meaning Mark Creighton retained his place at the centre of defence alongside Harry Worley.
