Land deal – another deadline passes

The elusive land deal, which was due to be signed today to pass the land from the City Council to Firoz Kassam, has still not been signed. Despite all the clauses in the deal having been accepted by both parties the deal still hasn't been finalised. City Council leader John Tanner claimed on TVFM that the deal would be ready this week, and as the solicitor who is acting on Kassam's behalf is away next week if it isn't signed by Friday then it will be another ten days at least until pen reaches paper.

Multiplex application deferred

An application to convert the three-screen ABC cinema in George Street in central Oxford to a seven screen multiplex appeared before the Oxford City Council planning committee today, but a decision was deferred until a later date. This application, even if passed, should pose no threat to the Minchery multiplex as there is the capacity in Oxford for more than sixteen new screens and the two venues would be catering for different populations.

Reserves fail again

Continuing the recent trend of following Saturday results Oxford's reserves went down 2-0 to Bournemouth at Dean Court this afternoon. No details on the scorers or line-up are currently available.

Look, no Ands!

South Africa drew 1-1 with Algeria in a dull African Nations Cup match today. Andre Arendse did not feature for the South Africans this time.

Matty does it again!

Honorary United player Matt Elliott scored the goal which sent Leicester to Wembley to face Tranmere in the Worthington Cup final as they beat Aston Villa 1-0 at Filbert Street.
Former United reserve Nigel Winterburn has been offered a one year extension to his contract by Arsenal.

Rivals woe

swindon town today called in the administrators as their financial problems proved insurmountable for the current board. A branch of Buchler Phillips, the same company that acted for Firoz Kassam in relation to the CVA, are now managing the club's affairs. Meanwhile Reading boss Alan Pardew has been told that he must sell players before he can buy anyone else, following the £750,000 signing of Martin Butler from Cambridge United yesterday. Scottish winger Andy McLaren has already had his contract cancelled and Pardew has failed to rule out a possible move by star player Darren Caskey.
