United signed a third player today, when winger Joel Ledgister signed a two-year deal. This follows the earlier signings of Alex Jeannin and Phil Trainer, and completes the trio of triallists who were offered deals last week. The only offer still waiting to be completed is that of former loan player Michael Corcoran.
Ledgister is described as a very fast player who can play on either wing, although right footed. Formerly with Southend United, he had a spell on loan at Gravesend & Northfleet last season, and played in their 1-0 defeat at Minchery Farm, giving an impressive performance. His signing brings the total number of full-time players in United's squad up to 21, described by Jim Smith as his optimum number. However, this figure includes the three former youth teamers, Ben Weedon, David Malloy, and Luke Bennett, who were all offered three-month contracts to try and impress.
Earlier today, United played Bristol Rovers at Bisham Abbey. The game was played in three 30-minute thirds. Rovers took the lead during the first period, but United levelled the scores with 15 minutes remaining. Yemi Odubade was fouled in the penalty area, and Rob Duffy converted the spot kick to earn a creditable draw against the newly promoted third division side. All three new signings took part, as did Danny Rose, unfortunately playing for the opposition.
