Kiddy Kiddy bang-bang!

From the Rage Online newsdesk Friday, January 21st, 2005

Oxford travel to Aggborough tomorrow, hoping to be able to avenge their defeat by Kidderminster last month. Oxford lost 2-0 at home to Kiddy, who were then bottom of the table, but have been unbeaten since that game, and it will be a very different looking United side that faces the Harriers.

Horacio Rodrigues faces one or two selection problems for this fixture, but they’re the kind of problems that managers (or head coaches, in Horacio’s case) like to have, as there is now competition for places in a lot of areas. Jamie Brooks has now recovered from the knock he received in training and is in contention for a return to the left side of midfield, where Matt Robinson performed so well against Yeovil, and Chris Hackett has now completed his three-match ban and will be hopeful of starting on the right wing, where Lee Bradbury covered more than competently last Saturday. Goalkeeper Simon Cox has also recovered from injury and should be back on the bench to provide cover for Chris Tardif. In addition, left-sided midfielder Lucas Cominelli will be looking to make his United debut, possibly in front of Mateo Corbo, whose own debut against the Glovers went so well. As if that wasn’t enough, Oxford are also hopeful of receiving international clearance for French winger Amine Karam in time for him to be considered tomorrow. All in all, an interesting situation for Senor Rodrigues.

Kidderminster also have selection problems, but not in quite such a positive way as Oxford. They are without Lee Jenkins, sent off against Macclesfield last weekend, and have injuries to Iyesden Christie and Reuben Hazell. Former Oxford loanee Abdou Sall seems to be out of favour, although Wayne Hatswell, who missed the match at the Kass due to suspension, should feature. Kiddy boss Stuart Watkiss has been trying to bring in a new midfielder, but so far has had approaches for Chris Holland (Boston), Ciaran Toner (Lincoln), and Dean Bennett (Wrexham) turned down, although he is still hopeful of bringing someone in before today’s 5.00 deadline. Rage Online can’t see a repeat of the KasStad scoreline, but we’ll stop short of predicting an away win (it’s just not in our nature), so we’ll go for our fallback position of a 1-1 draw.

Another side looking for revenge tomorrow is Raging Fever FC, who take on the Kidderminster supporters in the morning, at Wilden cricket ground. Kiddy beat RF 6-3 before the home game, but more distressingly they beat the Oxford supporters 9-0 in the corresponding fixture last season – the only game in which Fever have failed to score. Any scoreline which includes at least one RF goal will be considered a moral victory by the away side.
