Kidd’s stuff

From the Rage Online newsdesk Friday, December 28th, 2007

United's season turns around tomorrow, as they welcome Kidderminster Harriers to Grenoble Road.[@opponent]Kidderminster Harriers[/@opponent][@connection]Kidderminster Harriers[/@connection] Kidderminster thus become the first side that United will have met twice in the league this season, and could also, conceivably, become victims of United's first double of the season, as Oxford won 2-0 at Aggborough, just five weeks ago.[@news]2223[/@news] That win marked the debut of 18-year-old James Clarke, and he found himself involved in controversy when Harriers striker James Constable was dismissed for running into him. Clarke had already set up United's first goal. Shortly afterwards, Carl Pettefer was also erroneously sent off, as referee Oli Langford looked to even up the sides. Hopefully, tomorrow's game will be better officiated, and both sides will not allow those events to mar the match.

Darren Patterson rested Clarke for Wednesday's win over Crawley, although he did come on as a late substitute for Matt Day. It is likely that he will continue with Clarke on the bench and Day at right back, given the history mentioned above. Luke Foster will be suspended, having picked up his fifth and sixth bookings in the Aldershot and Crawley games. The most likely replacement is Michael Corcoran. If Patto makes any other changes to the Boxing Day team, they are likely to come in central midfield, where Pettefer and Eddie Hutchinson failed to impress. There is a dearth of options though, unless Danny Rose is now fit to come into the team, in which case Petts is the most likely to make way, as a midfield of him and Rose would be too lightweight. There may also be a change up front, where Yemi Odubade and Rob Duffy failed to improve United's shot rate. Yemi could find himself relegated to the substitute's bench, with either Ashley Barnes or Gary Twigg asked to play alongside Duffy.

Since losing to Oxford, Kidderminster have beaten Cambridge United and draw at Forest Green Rovers, both of which are decent results. They currently lie in tenth place, above Oxford on goal difference. One would hope that Wednesday's win will have given United the confidence to push on and go on a bit of a run to bring themselves back into play-off contention, but recent results have shattered our confidence in the Yellows to do such things, and consequently our prediction is for a 1-1 draw, which is the best we can do in our current frame of mind.
