Kiddies around

From the Rage Online newsdesk Monday, December 27th, 2004

Tomorrow sees the visit of the league’s worst club, as 92nd placed Kidderminster Harriers grace the KasStad with their presence. United will be determined to beat the Harriers, and continue their unbeaten run under Ramon Diaz, and indeed their 100 percent home record. Not to mention avoiding the humiliation of losing to the club at the bottom.

Tommy Mooney is suspended for the match after receiving two yellow cards at Rushden yesterday, and Steve Basham could well deputise for him. Alternatives include moving Lee Bradbury back into attack and adding Paul Wanless, Mark E’Beyer, or Rob Wolleaston to the midfield, or else bringing in Danny Morgan for his first start, or someone else, maybe. Jon Ashton missed yesterday’s game with a back injury, and it’s unlikely that he’ll have recovered in time, so it looks like we’ll have to suffer the awe-inspiring combination of Leo Roget and Dave Woozley at the back. It’s also possible that Bradie Clark’s run in the first team will come to an end after being to blame for Rushden’s first goal, and possibly one or both of their others, now that Chris Tardif has returned to fitness.

For their part, Kidderminster have captain, and former Oxford “player”, Wayne Hatswell suspended, but both Dean Keates and Simon Weaver are available for selection after they missed yesterday’s home hammering by ten-man Swansea. It’s a shame that Mooney will be unavailable, but we still feel that United should be too strong for Conference-bound Kiddy, and our prediction is for an Oxford win, by 3-1. We must have had too much wine over christmas.
