Kassam King

From the Rage Online newsdesk Wednesday, November 10th, 2004

Firoz Kassam has announced his intent with a statement to the Official Oxford United web site. Kassam promised that he would not let the club go down and that he would do everything in his power to turn the situation around. He also said that he has told Graham Rix that there is money available with which to strengthen the squad, although Rix himself has stated that he has had problems finding the right players to bring in.

In the interview, Kassam also said that he has told Rix that he can’t keep blaming bad luck for the club’s poor results, the implication being that if the current trend continues Kassam will be considering the manager’s position. Kassam has previously publicly supported Rix, most notably after the win over Cheltenham when he came down to the pitchside after the game and shook the hands of Rix and all the players. We suspect that two poor results against Rochdale will see the end of Rix’s tenure.

Former United players have been in the news for the right reasons. Defender Simon King, currently at Barnet, scored the only goal of the game as the England National Game XI under-23?s overcame the Italian Serie ?C? representative side 1-0 in Ivrea today. last night Dexter Blackstock was on the scoresheet for Southampton in the Carling Cup again, although his goal was meaningless as the Saints lost 5-2 at Watford.
