In, out, and shaken all about

From the Rage Online newsdesk Friday, January 26th, 2007

There was further transfer activity for the Us today, as one player joined, and another left. Coming in is midfielder Gregg Coombes, who has joined on a one-month loan deal from Cardiff City. Coombes is 18-years old, and plays in central midfield or wide right. Although he has yet to play for the Bluebirds' first team, he is highly thought of, and has appeared for Wales at every level up to under-19. He is expected to go straight in to the squad for Monday's live TV game against Rushden & Diamonds.

One player who won't be featuring is John Dempster[@player]Dempster, John[/@player], who will miss out on a chance to play against his former team by joining their local rivals, Kettering Town, on a one-month loan. Dempster trained with the Poppies yesterday, but despite that Ron Atkinson's[@player]Atkinson, Ron[/@player] new club still decided to take him on.

The departure, however temporary, of Dempster does leave United with some possible gaps at the back, unless the transfer deals have not yet concluded. During the Woking game on Tuesday, United lost two more defenders to add to the absence of Chris Willmott for the rest of the season. Matt Day was taken off at half time with a knee injury, and he could be ruled out until the summer, while on-loan Georges Santos was substituted in the second half with a badly sprained ankle, and he faces two months or more on the sidelines. In addition, Carl Pettefer, who was also substituted on Tuesday, could be out for two weeks, while young wingback, Eddie Anaclet, is another who might miss out on Monday night with an injury. The good news is that Andy Burgess has recovered from his virus and should be fit to face his former club on Monday.
