In one of the most disappointing results of the season so far Luton came from behind to beat United in front of the largest crowd of the season so far. Andy Scott, who always seems to score against the Hatters, gave Oxford the lead in the 20th minute after some good work by Paul Powell. Six minutes before half-time Dean Crowe equalised for Luton after some hestitation in the United penalty area. Before the second half was two minutes old Matthew Spring finished well to ensure Luton took all three points.

United made two changes from the starting line-up at Torquay, former Luton player Phil Gray replacing Paul Moody and loanee Matthew Bound playing his first game for Oxford instead of fellow loanee David Morley. Nine minutes into the second half a double substitution saw Moody replace Gray and Manny Omoyinmi come on for Wayne Hatswell. Eleven minutes from time Dean Whitehead was brought on for Robert Quinn.

The attendance of 11,121 was the largest yet at the Kassam Stadium and the second highest so far in division three this season, beaten only by the 13,677 that packed into Home Park for Plymouth's local derby with Torquay today. Referee M R Warren had a reasonable game, despite showing yellow cards to Dave Savage and Wayne Hatswell. A match report appears here.

United have dropped one place, back to 18th, behind Macclesfield who drew 1-1 with Oxford's opponents on Saturday, bottom placed Halifax. Luton have consolidated their second place, now just three points behind leaders Plymouth Argyle, who could only draw 2-2 with Torquay. Former U Paul Wanless scored Cambridge United's first goal in their 2-1 win over Brentford.
