In a mood
Reports on Radio Oxford today suggested that the reason why United failed to sign Paul Moody is because the club refused to pay the striker a £20,000 signing-on fee. Whilst this may well have been the sum involved Rage Online has learned that this was not why the big man will not be rejoining the U's. Our understanding, which may of course be flawed, is that a basic error by United boss Mark Wright led to the Millwall chairman refusing to deal with the Oxford manager and even threatened to report him to the FA for an alleged illegal approach. If this is true then it shows that Wright is still very much learning his trade.
The player Wright tried (and of course failed) to sign last week wasDrewe Broughton of Kidderminster. He wasn't signed because Kidderminster wanted £75k for him, but Firoz Kassam allegedly wouldn't sanction the spending. No doubt Broughton will now go and score the winning goal against United next Tuesday.
Reserves point
United's reserves today drew 1-1 at Bournemouth. Whilst this might sound like a reasonable scoreline it should be remembered that the Cherries second string have lost all their previous matches this season and were struggling to put out a side against United today, relying on two players borrowed from other clubs. United took the lead in the 26th minute when French triallist Norman Sylla took advantage of a defensive error to score. Willie Huck, another Frenchman, equalised just after an hour when he took advantage of yet another Richard Knight error to tap the ball home.
