Imp proving fortunes?

From the Rage Online newsdesk Friday, January 9th, 2004

Lincoln City visit Oxford tomorrow in an attempt to halt the league leaders’ 16 league match unbeaten run. Lincoln themselves are in 6th position and with the promise of another large gate this should be a decent match.

United have no new injury worries after Tuesday’s draw with Swansea, and so only Andy Scott (who is now back in training) and the suspended Julian Alsop are definitely ruled out. Jamie Brooks is back from his loan at Maidenhead but is highly unlikely to be considered for first team action just yet.

The big questions are who will start up front and who will start at the back. In attack the new loanee Richie Foran will be hoping to oust Jefferson Louis, who began at Swansea, although Mark Rawle is another possible option, either to replace or, more likely, to partner Steve Basham. Lee Steele hasn’t seen enough match action yet to be considered a starter, but is a potent weapon to have on the bench, as is the ROS Chris Hackett.

At the back Jon Ashton, who came on in midfield in place of Paul Wanless at the Vetch, is fighting for a return to the starting line-up. However following the shut-out achieved at Swansea, who featured joint leading scorer Lee Trundle, it is difficult to see Ian Atkins wanting to tinker with the defence.

Lincoln will probably field an unchanged side from the one that beat Bury 2-1 last Saturday. Richard Liburd is the only definite absentee, although there is a slight doubt over goalkeeper and actor Alan Marriott. Given that Lincoln themselves have only lost twice in their last 20 games this should be a tight encounter. However Rage Online believes that our New Year’s Resolution of increased optimism means that we need an upbeat prediction, so we’re going for a 2-0 win to the Mighty Yellows.
