Hull City’s 2-0 win at Cheltenham has given them a four point gap above second-placed Doncaster, who lost 2-0 at home to sixth-placed Lincoln last night, and takes them six points ahead of United, who now have two games in hand on the leaders. Mansfield beat Southend 1-0 at Field Mill to close up to just one point behind Oxford, having now played the same number of games. Yeovil, however, are now six points behind the Stags after going down 2-1 at home to Leyton Orient.
Torquay have climbed back into the play-off zone after beating Macclesfield 4-1, but if Huddersfield can win or draw at York tomorrow then the Terriers will climb above the Gulls, Lincoln and Yeovil. United’s next opponents, Kidderminster Harriers, drew 0-0 at Bury, and Kiddy also have a game on Tuesday, home to Cheltenham. Bottom club Carlisle lost 1-0 at Bristol Rovers, for whom Carlisle scored.
Third Division clubs had mixed fortunes in the FA Cup. Swansea came from behind to beat Preston 2-1, but Scunthorpe lost by the same score at Portsmouth, for whom former United trainee Matthew Taylor scored both goals. Other former Oxford players to find the net included Manny Omoyinmi, who scored Margate’s goal in their 3-1 defeat at Barnet in the Conference, and Todd Lumsden, who put Hamilton Academicals ahead in their 2-2 Scottish Second Division draw at Morton.
