Hiss, Boo, and Kempout

Another home defeat, this time 2-0, leaves United 22 points from safety with 36 points left to play for. The starting eleven was only different from Wrexham by the inclusion of Steve Anthrobus for the injured Andy Scott, although the U's were reduced to nine men with the dismissals of Dean Whitehead for retaliation and Matt Murphy (eventually) for two yellow cards. This led to the substitution of Anthrobus for Peter Fear, followed by Joey Beauchamp who came on for Paul Powell (although why Beauchamp didn't start in place of Scott remains a mystery known only to David Kemp) and Manny Omoyinmi who came on for Paul Tait. In addition to the two sendings-off John Robertson was booked. The game was held up for about five minutes due to coin throwing morons in the London Road. The attendance was 7,480, the opposition was swindon, the referee was Paul Rejer of Worcestershire, the goals were both scored by Steve Robinson and a match report can be found here or hereabouts.

Other teams who might be bothered by relegation had mixed fortunes. Luton lost 1-0 at Miwwaw, Swansea drew 1-1 with Northampton to leave United 12 points adrift, Bristol Rovers beat Bury 2-0, and Cambridge, who have now sunk to fifth from bottom, had Paul Wanless score for them but lost 3-2 at home to Wrexham. Darren Purse found the net again for Brum and Paul Simpson found the target for Blackpool.
