Hackett on song

From the Rage Online newsdesk Tuesday, September 21st, 2004

In a specially arranged behind-closed-doors game this afternoon, United’s reserves drew 2-2 with Luton at Kenilworth Road. Oxford went into a half-time two-goal lead, thanks to the ROS Chris Hackett who scored the first goal and then had his cross/shot turned into his own net by a Luton defender. With the United players tiring towards the end, Luton struck back to earn a draw.

As well as Hackett, playing his first game since Andy Scott took his knee out at Orient, United gave a run-out to Mark Rawle, yet to feature this season due to a groin injury. Mark E’Beyer and Dave Woozley also played, as did Paul Wanless, whose substitution with twenty minutes remaining could indicate that he will be involved with the first team against Bury on Saturday.

In this evening’s games, League Two clubs have had universally poor fortunes, with Bristol Rovers losing 1-0 at Norwich, Yeovil losing 2-0 at home to Bolton and Grimsby also going down 2-0 at home to Charlton. Mansfield were thrashed 4-0 at home by Preston, while Lincoln lost 3-1 at Birmingham City and Notts County went down 3-2 to West Ham at Upton Park. Elsewhere, Manny Omoyinmi scored Gravesend’s second in their 2-1 win over Dagenham & Redbridge, and Andy Thomson scored for Falkirk against Celtic. Unfortunately for Thommo, Celtic did a Yeovil and scored six. Other ex-Us on the scoresheet this Tuesday include Roy Hunter, who scored a penalty for Hucknall in their 2-1 win over Redditch, and Steve Anthrobus, who scored Hednesford’s winner in their 2-1 victory at Rugby United in the FA Cup first qualifying round replay.

Last night Lee Jarman (yes, Lee Jarman!) scored for Weston-Super-Mare in their 3-2 defeat at Havant & Waterlooville.
