United entertain Swansea this afternoon in a match that is the third (or is it fourth) consecutive “most important game of the season”. Swansea are top with maximum points while United are fifth, just two points behind.
This game will be an interesting test of Ian Atkins’ tactics for the season ahead – will he try and prevent Swansea scoring and hope to nick a result, or will he go for goal and try and actually out-score the opposition. His attitude will be reflected in the line-up – James Hunt or Danny Brown in midfield? Andy Scott joining Steve Basham and Julian Alsop in a front three? Or will he play nine men behind the ball in a (probably futile) attempt to snuff out the threat of Lee Trundle?
Rage Online, it has to be said, is not optimistic. Our defence, even with the outstanding Jon Ashton, lacks pace and in Matt Bound (once of Swansea, of course) there is an obvious weak link to be exploited. We envisage Swansea exploiting that weakness to good effect and we predict a 2-0 win to the visitors.
In a totally unrelated piece of news former United midfielder Roy Hunter has joined Unibond League side Hucknall Athletic.
