United have signed former swindon 'keeper Jimmy Glass on a one month contract as temporary cover for Richard Knight. Glass is best remembered by most people as the scorer of the last minute goal against Plymouth for Carlisle which kept them in the league and relegated Scarborough, although he's best remembered by swindon fans for being crap. At least this option gives Denis Smith a bit of time to find a decent second-choice goalie, and also gives Glass a bit of time to show that his stint down the A420 was him just trying to fit in with the rest of the squad. Glass claims, possibly disingenuously, that the fact he failed at swindon means it is “appropriate” that he joins Oxford, which appears to be an interesting use of logic.
United's reserves beat Milton United 2-0 in a friendly game last night, both goals coming from Jamie Cook. Apparently the game was threatened with cancellation at half time due to some trouble, but things calmed down enough for the second half to proceed. United's second XI have another pre-season friendly this Tuesday at Wantage.
There's little doubt which item of merchandise Rage Online readers would like the club shop to stock (other than replica kit, but that might be too much to ask) and that's an Oxford United credit card, chosen by 32% of respondents. An excellent idea which will also provide another source of income to our impoverished club (are you watching Trev?). Two items came equal second with 13% each: sunglasses (a sign of the Summer perhaps?) and underwear, a valuable resource which used to be provided by the club (as this reporter's Oxford United boxer shorts attest). Other items which all received 5% included toothbrushse (which would save us all from having to insist on yellow ones when in Boots), screensavers (create your own, surely?), coasters/place mats for entertaining important guests, and of course Oxford United yellow and blue BMWs (provided by Oxford's local major employer, of course).
