In the biggest news since the last item of big news, former Oxford centre-back Phil Gilchrist[@player]gilchrist, phil[/@player] has been appointed as assistant manager to Woking's new boss Kim Grant. Quite why, we're not sure, but he obviously gives good interview. Gilly had two spells at United, and as is often the case he did better first time round. He was helped in that he was partnered largely by Matt Elliott, and Oxford were playing at a much higher level.
For his second period at United he was signed by Jim Smith following the side's relegation to the Conference. He was part-funded by Coca-Cola, thanks to a fan winning an online competition, but he failed to fizz (we're sorry). At the start he formed a solid partnership with Chris Willmott, but injury caught up with Gilly, as did age, and he failed to impress. Last season he made just three appearances before retiring with injury in November last year. His last appearance coincided with Smith's final match as manager, that 5-0 bollocks at Rushden.
Rage Online would like to wish Gilly all the best as he takes his first tentative steps into the world of football management. That's because we're nice like that.
