Gas tapped

Bristol Rovers are the latest victims to visit the KasStad when they pop over this Saturday. United, still unbeaten at home, owe Rovers following the 1-0 home defeat last season which saved the Pirates from relegation, and denied United a play-off place.

Oxford’s main doubt concerns Steve Basham, who limped off during Tuesday’s game at York with what was ostensibly a dead leg. If Basham can’t play then it could pave the way for the ROS Chris Hackett to make his first start of the season, partnering either Julian Alsop or Jefferson Louis, either of whom could be preferred over the other. In defence Andy Crosby is likely to continue ahead of Paul McCarthy, while the midfield trio is again likely to be unchanged, despite the damage done by York. Following West Ham’s 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest yesterday, Oxford’s defence is again the meanest in the whole Nationwide League, despite conceding two goals on Tuesday.

United fans can look forward to welcoming back to the Kas midfielder Dave Savage, who left Oxford under a bit of a cloud at the end of last season. Former Us midfielder Rob Quinn is also at the Memorial Ground, but hasn’t been getting much first team action this season, which could explain Rovers’ higher league position this time round. Expect the curse of the old boys to strike as Savage scores for Rovers in a 1-1 draw. Or not.
