United lost 3-1 against Wolves at the Manor to lose their first round Worthington Cup tie 3-2 on aggregate. Jon Shepheard gave the U's the lead with his first goal for the club from a corner after 14 minutes but Wolves equalised through Carl Robinson three minutes into the second half. After they had Joleon Lescott sent off for a second yellow card after an hour Wolves took the lead through Robert Taylor four minutes later before sealing the game with an Adrian Proudlock strike after a further three minutes. United started with the same line-up and formation as on Saturday, with the exception of Shepheard, on for Ian McGuckin. In the second half Derek Lilley came on for Steve Anthrobus before a double substitution saw Matt Murphy and Rob Folland replace Dean Whitehead and Neil McGowan respectively. McGowan and Paul Tait were both booked by Paul Alcock, along with most of the Wolves side. The crowd was a depressing (as well as depressed) 4,769. A match report can be found here.
Marc McGregor scored Nuneaton's second goal in their 2-2 draw at Kingstonian. Mark Stein scored Luton's first in their 2-2 draw at Peterborough which sent the Hatters through on away goals.
