Fever caught cold by the Harriers

Kidderminster fans 6 Raging Fever 0

Raging Fever travelled to Kidderminster for an eagerly awaited fixture, having enjoyed numerous close encounters with the Harriers in the past, most recently beating them 4-3 on the Aggborough pitch.

This game kicked off in difficult conditions with the rain lashing down and Fever with a depleted squad. Despite the huge following Oxford would take to the 'main' game in the afternoon, the supporters team could only manage nine of their own players and so had to borrow a keeper and striker from the opposition. Despite this they made a bright start and had much of the early possession although clear-cut chances were few and far between.

The home side, though, soon started to exert their dominance on the game although the breakthrough was to come from an unlikely source. Fever conceded a corner which was floated into the box and, with no one taking charge of the situation, Oxford player-manager John Matthews decided to take matters into his own hands. Showing his typical eye for goal, Matthews attempted a clearance but only managed to volley over the goalkeeper and into the back of his own net for a stunning own goal, highlighting why he's not normally to be found defending set pieces.

With this, the floodgates opened and there is little more to say about this game from an Oxford point of view, with subsequent goals coming thick and fast against the demoralized fever side. By the end, Fever were just glad to get it over with and into the warm showers . Thanks as ever, though, go to Dave and the rest of his Kidderminster team for hosting us and for a game played in a good spirit.
