Feeling Woozey

From the Rage Online newsdesk Friday, June 25th, 2004

In a dizzying spell of transfer activity Oxford have signed their second player in two days. Graham Rix has brought in 24 year old centre back David Woozley from promoted Torquay United. Woozley was club captain, and ever-present two seasons ago, although he only played 11 games last season.

Woozley had been offered a new contract by the Gulls, but he turned them down, ostensibly to move nearer to his Bracknell home. Rix has been looking for a centre back to complement Jon Ashton, although Dave Mackay can play there, as can Dave Waterman, who has yet to sign up for next season. Woozley started at Crystal Palace before he joined the Plainmoor club two seasons ago. He has twice suffered from a broken leg since, which curtailed his appearances (not unsurprisingly).

Woozley played against United in Torquay’s 3-0 win last season, and was notable only for being slightly rotund, so he should do well alongside Julian Alsop and Paul Wanless. We anticipate that United will yet sign one or two more players before the season starts, and of course we’re still waiting on Waterman and Scott McNiven. Rage Online will, as usual, be almost last with the news.
