Eastbourne un-Ho!

From the Rage Online newsdesk Saturday, January 3rd, 2009

Today's game at Eastbourne Borough has been postponed because the pitch is frozen. No date for the rearranged game has been announced, but it will almost certainly be during a mid-week. This means that, of the five Conference games scheduled for today, only the game between Stevenage Borough and Lewes is still currently going ahead.

Oxford yesterday signed two new defenders, both on one-month loan deals. The duo are Shane Killock, from Huddersfield Town, and Adam Chapman, from Sheffield United. Killock has played one game for Huddersfield, but also has experience from loan spells at Hyde United and Harrogate Town. Chapman is a Northern Ireland under-21 international who has a record as a goalscorer for the Blades' youth team.

Former Oxford boss Ian Greaves died yesterday, aged 76. Greaves started his career as a full-back for Manchester United, before moving to Lincoln City and then Oldham Athletic. His first managerial post was at Huddersfield, where he was boss for six years before moving to Bolton Wanderers in 1974. In 1980 he joined Oxford, where he was in charge for 14 months following the departure of Bill Asprey. Greaves' first game in charge was a Third Division fixture against top-of-the-table Charlton Athletic, which United won 1-0 with a Paul Berry goal. He was in charge for 54 matches, of which Oxford won 24 and drew 16. His final game, before leaving for Wolverhampton Wanderers, was a 3-1 win at Walsall on 30 January 1982. He was succeeded by caretaker boss Roy Barry, before Jim Smith took over permanently.
