Dwight ain’t right

From the Rage Online newsdesk Thursday, September 25th, 2003

Dwight Ciampoli has been released by United after his three month professional contract expired. The nineteen year old midfielder came up through the youth ranks and was offered a pro contract at the start of this season as a chance to try and prove himself.

Unfortunately for diminutive Dwight he was never able to force himself into the reckoning for a first team squad place, with disappointing performances in pre-season friendlies and for the reserves. It was no surprise that his contract has not been renewed.

Ian Atkins told Ciampoli that he should continue with his education and try and find a local club to play for. Meanwhile there has been no news on Dwight’s fellow young pro Robert Lovegrove, who was offered a three month contract at the same time. Unlike Ciampoli, Lovegrove did make it to the first team bench for the season’s first three games, although there have been no opportunities since and, with the return to fitness of both Paul McCarthy and Dave Waterman, plus the permanent signing of Jon Ashton, one wonders if that will be the end of Lovey’s chances.
