Drawn like curtains

In tonight’s League Two matches, six of the eleven fixtures ended all-square, possibly reflecting the tightness in the division this season (or possibly not). Bristol Rovers were held to a 2-2 draw at home by Bury, who were reduced to ten men with 25 minutes still to go and while 2-1 down. At Cambridge, Andy Scott gave Orient a first-half lead, but the game finished 1-1, which was also the final score at Grimsby, where United’s vanquishers on Saturday, Boston, took an early lead. The game between Kidderminster and Notts County ended goalless, while Southend managed to draw 1-1 at Lincoln, despite being reduced to ten men 18 minutes from time. The other drawn match was at Yeovil, who took an early lead against Darlington, but ended up with a 1-1 draw.

Three of the remaining five results ended with 2-0 wins for the away side. United’s opponents on Saturday, Scunthorpe, won by that score at Cheltenham, while Wycombe beat managerless Chester by the same result at the Deva (which is now called something like the Saunders Paint Stadium, or similar). Swansea also found themselves with three away points by virtue of their win at Rochdale. There were home wins for Macclesfield, who beat new boys Shrewsbury 2-1, and Northampton, 1-0 winners in their local derby against relegated Rushden.

In League One, Dean Windass scored his second goal in successive games, this one earning Bradford City a point in their 2-2 home draw with Peterborough. In the Championship (that’s Division One to some, or Division Two to our older readers) Danny Cullip found himself scoring for the wrong side as his own goal set up Plymouth in their 2-0 win at Brighton.
