United went down 4-2 at Peterborough's London Road tonight, despite taking the lead through a header from stand-in captain Matt Murphy in the 19th minute. It took Posh only eight minutes to equalise, with a header from David Oldfield and after a further four minutes the home side was in the lead as Andy Clarke scored unmarked from the edge of the six yard box. In the second half Neil Cutler saved a penalty from Leon McKenzie awarded against Ian McGuckin, before Matthew Gill extended Peterborough's lead in the 80th minute from close range. Two minutes from time Peter Fear pulled a goal back for Oxford after a Phil Gray effort was cleared off the line but in injury time the penalty misser made amends to ensure that United went home pointless. The only change from Saturday's starting line-up was the inclusion of Fear at the expense of Chris Hackett, who later came on as a substitute for Joey Beauchamp. McGuckin made his first appearance for United since the 5-0 defeat at Millwall in September, replacing Lee Jarman at half-time and a late substitution saw Manny Omoyinmi on for Robert Quinn. The attendance was 4,004. Read a totally one-sided and irrelevant match report here.
