Done and dusted

From the Rage Online newsdesk Monday, May 31st, 2010

The 2009-10 season is now officially over, following yesterday's League 2 play-off final between Rotherham United and Dagenham & Redbridge. The Daggers won that game 3-2 to earn promotion, meaning that Ronnie Moore's Rotherham will be one of Oxford's opponents for next season, meaning a first trip for United to the Don Valley Stadium in Sheffield.

So now we know who United's 23 opponents will be next season in Division Four, and as well as Rotherham there are four new grounds for Oxford to visit. United have never before played against Accrington Stanley, plus since their last game against Shrewsbury Town the Shrews have moved to the Greenhous Meadow, newly renamed for next season. Moving to new grounds in the close season are Chesterfield, who are leaving Saltergate, and Morecambe. United will have reasonably close opponents in Wycombe Wanderers, Cheltenham Town, and Northampton Town, plus the first League visit for over 30 years to Hereford United. With Dagenham's promotion the only game close to London is the fixture at Barnet, while the only game on the south coast next season is the match at Plainmoor against Torquay United.

Meanwhile, iconic goalkeeper Billy Turley has already got himself fixed up with a new club for next season. The popular stopper will be playing alongside (or rather, just behind) former colleague Chris Willmott for Brackley Town. We're certain that key among the factors driving his decision are the pre-season friendlies that Brackley have arranged against Rushden & Diamonds and Oxford United.

Oh, and we're fully aware that we claimed there would be no updates while we're on holiday this week, but we found an internet connection and well, we just couldn't resist.
