Devil in the detail

Detailed planning permission for the leisure complex at Minchery Farm was today submitted to the City Council, to be discussed at Planning Committee probably on September 5th. This is the key to the funding of the stadium and it is thought that if these plans are approved then builders will be back on site very shortly thereafter. As well as the nine-screen multiplex cinema the plans include a leisure centre, a 26-lane bowling alley, a bingo hall, a health and fitness centre, and aerobic and dance studios, as well as a controversial night club, so at least there will be something to do while the football is on.
Last Friday was the deadline for Morrells to appeal against the court's verdict that their covenant should not affect United's plans and as it appears that no appeal has been forthcoming it is thought that the timing is right for the submission of these detailed plans. As it now also appears likely that the Council is not going to appeal agaist the decision to award Thames Water compensation for the breach of a restrictive covenant on the stadium site there appears to be nothing now to stop Barr Construction commencing work, provided the planning permission is granted.

Nothing in reserve

United reserves lost 3-0 in Wilts. this afternoon, despite fielding a strong line-up including Joey Beauchamp, Peter Fear, Derek Lilley, and a number of fringe first teamers such as the Rage On sponsored Rob Folland, Simon Weatherstone and Jamie Cook. Hubert Busby Junior played in goal but as yet there are no reports as to his performance.
