Next up at the KasStad come Scunthorpe United, featuring former United skipper Andy Crosby. Oxford fans will be hoping that the Us don’t concede a penalty. United will be looking to kick on from last night’s win over Mansfield, and the side should approach the game with something akin to confidence. One player definitely out is defender Leo Roget, whose one-match ban for his red card will take effect immediately in line with the new rules. Lee Molyneaux showed that he is a more than capable deputy, and there’s also a slim chance that David Woozley might be fit enough to make his Oxford debut. Other than that, it is difficult to see Graham Rix making any changes to the side that played so well against the Stags.
Scunthorpe are the division’s early leaders, having won both their opening games, although at this stage it’s hardly indicative of anything other than decent current form. Scunny will be without striker Steve Torpey, who will be out for six weeks with damaged knee ligaments. As well as Crosby, the Iron feature former Hull ‘keeper Paul Musselwhite as another of their few summer signings.
This will obviously be a difficult match, and United will be hoping that the defence will be able to cope without Roget. Oxford do have enough up front and in midfield to be able to threaten at the other end, and with home advantage they shouldn’t, really, be defeated. Rage Online tentatively suggests that the match will finish 1-1.
