Crosby wins
United skipper Andy Crosby has been given a resounding thumbs up by readers of Rage Online, who have voted the Sportswriters Player of the Year to become the Rage Online Player of the Season. Crosby received 32% of the vote in one of our most popular polls yet, easily beating second-placed Dave Savage, the Supporters Player of the Year getting 24%. The Players Player of the Year, Dave Waterman, came third with 15% and Bobby Ford was fourth, receiving 10% of all votes cast.
Less lucky was Scott McNiven, who was voted as the Weakest Link of the season by 26% of voters. Rage Online readers were also unimpressed with James Hunt, who came second with 13%, and third placed Roy Hunter, who got 11% of the vote. Andy Scott and Matt Bound game joint 4th with 10% of the vote each.
Cherries not impeded
Bournemouth today beat Lincoln 5-2 in the Division Three play-off final at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium, in front of the largest crowd yet to witness this event in this stadium. This was also the first time that any team in a play-off final had scored five goals.
The good thing about this is that Bournemouth got the promotion that their football, throughout the season, deserved. The bad thing is that it means United now have to face Lincoln and their horrible style of play, their small band of loathsome supporters and their cheating goalkeeper Alan Marriott again next season.
Savo not a Cobbler
According to the
Northampton Chronicle and Echo Northampton manager Martin Wilkinson has said that he will not be signing former Cobbler Dave Savage. This is because Northampton apparently have a new policy of only signing players in the early or mid-20s (Savo is 29). It was news to everyone that there was even a small possibility of Savage moving to Northampton, and this story looks more like a bit of space-filler for a newspaper editor than a bit of serious sports news, so it's a bit unclear why we're bothering to give the story any space here as it obviously lacks any credibility whatsoever.
